Feeling Stuck? Here’re 5 Powerful Self-Motivation TIPS

Have you been feeling low and uninspired lately? There are a number of factors that could be contributing to your mood, but the need to be vigilant, social distance and shelter in place during the pandemic can definitely drain you mentally faster. You might be thinking, short of seeing a professional life coach or therapist about this, of how you can increase your self-motivation in daily life in your own simple way.

If you want to find a way to energise yourself and live this new reality with more joy and vigour, to get started on personal projects and actually see yourself progress, then read on. Daftein has compiled a list of incredibly powerful ways you could get back that spark of life.

Tip #1: Declutter and Simplify Your To-do List

One of the fastest ways to easily lose motivation, we’ve encountered, is to overwhelm yourself with tasks. So when making a list of projects or work tasks, ask yourself:

  • Is this a priority?
  • Is it absolutely necessary that I do it now?
  • Is it absolutely necessary that I do it?
  • How else can I accomplish this creatively?

By trimming down what you ask of yourself to only the essentials and learning how to delegate other tasks, you’ll be able to radically simplify your list of things to do. Doing less means you get more time to focus on the projects that you really care about — increasing your motivation to do it.

Creative thinking also plays a role in resolving the clutter on your to-do list. You can choose to combine projects or opt to create your own schedule according to your own rhythms. Remember that this is for you, so you don’t have to worry about following a ready-made list down to the letter.

Tip #2: Pace Yourself and Set Realistic Goals

Building up to your ideal self or ideal future doesn’t have to be a race you run 24/7. Becoming consumed by a single, unmanaged goal is also a quick way to drain you of your energy and motivation, in fact. So get your brain in the habit of goal setting. Teach it to set realistic and measurable goals. And remember that you can (and need to!) take breaks, too.

By following this pattern of small goals leading up to the ultimate objective, a technique also practiced by professional life coaches, it’ll be easier to see how you are progressing. It’ll make it easier to celebrate the small wins on your journey and acknowledge how you’ve made good use of your time. What can be more motivating than that?

Tip #3: Celebrate Accomplishments — No Matter How Small

Speaking of the small wins, one of the best ways to stay focused and motivated is to celebrate your achievements. It doesn’t matter if it’s just a small thing you’ve managed to do. If you’ve gone through goal-setting and broken down your roadmap to completion into smaller milestones, then you’ll see that even if the day’s success is a small thing, it’s still important to reaching your long-term goals.

Another side effect of celebrating is to ground yourself in your present. Once your brain is reminded of the specifics of your progress, it’ll make you feel happier and more energised. Use this energy to drive your next step or visualise new ways to achieve your objectives!

Tip #4: Start Exercising to Increase Your Energy

Exercising plays a part in keeping you physically in shape. But it also plays a crucial role in your mental well-being. Exercise and other strenuous activities get your blood pumping and release endorphins into your brain, which make you happier. So get on a fitness program or take up a hobby that involves some sort of physical exertion.

Not only will you build up your strength and sleep better for it, but you’ll also gradually gain the stamina and get fired up while doing so — an important aspect of increasing your overall motivation.

Tip #5: Base Your Motivation on Giving, not Getting

Always regarding your relationships transactional in nature, rooted in what you can get out of it, is a sure way to drain your energy faster. Try to shift your mindset into one that’s geared towards giving instead; to a relationship that is transformational. You can focus on being more involved in your interpersonal relationships and strengthening your bonds.

This practice of investing more of yourself and energy into close and healthy ties is an excellent source of mental energy and motivation. By reinforcing your relationships with your support system, you can destress and open yourself up to more opportunities to gain motivation. Simple, wholesome acts like laughing together and sharing experiences is enough to refresh your energy and keep you going.
