Bad Day? Here’s How You Can Quickly Turn Things Around

Even the happiest, most successful person will have a bad day every once in a while. It’s normal to have negative feelings after all. Remember that being emotionally and psychologically healthy doesn’t mean you never have off days, it just means you can adapt and handle these days by focusing your attention on more important things. To give you a better idea on what we’re talking about, here are some of the things we advise you do to help you cope and get over a bad day.

Gather Your Army

You don’t need a personal development coach to tell you that talking to anyone in your support group can easily turn your bad day into a great one, especially if the person is someone you haven’t gotten in touch with for a while. Even better if you make future plans to catch up because you’re giving yourself more reason to anticipate the coming days.

Write Down Your Feelings

The last thing you want to do when you’re having a bad day is to take another person down with you, a feat that’s easily accomplished when a person is in a foul mood. There’s a reason the saying ‘misery loves company’ is so popular. But knowing how awful it feels to go through a bad day should be enough reason for you not to want it to happen to other people. So instead of lashing out at the next person who tries to approach you, why not write down your feelings instead?

Writing will allow you to get all the bad stuff out without hurting anyone in the process. Be as honest as you want while you’re writing down your thoughts and feelings, don’t hold anything back. Remember that anger is merely energy you can’t get rid of and the moment you do, you will feel better. You also don’t have to worry about making amends with anyone you could’ve had hurt while you were going through your bad day.

Clean and Organize

A wise man once said ‘people underestimate the benefit of good old manual labor’ and we can’t agree more. Aside from being honest work, manual labor allows a person to focus enough to rewire their minds and let go of high emotions. So the next time you’re having a bad day, organize your work area or your bedroom or do a house chore you’ve been putting off for days. Not only will you get things done, but you will also be able to calm down until you no longer feel like your bad day is indeed one.

Take a Long Shower or Soak in a Tub

Nothing screams like a self-pampering time than a nice long shower or soak in the tub. Water is a relaxing medium that can easily turn your horrible day into an ‘it can’t get any better than this’ day. While you’re relaxing, visualize your worries, anxieties, anger, and frustration being washed away by the water. At the end of your bath, you will surely feel relaxed and refreshed like never before.

Play With a Baby or a Pet

Playing with a pet and cute babies elevates the levels of serotonin and dopamine in your body, leaving you calm and relaxed. Petting animals is therapeutic and will help ease your mind. You can either visit places that allow petting animals or just ask your friends if they need a pet sitter, it’s both fun, endorphin filling, as well as really convenient for your friends.

Exercise

After some rigorous activities, your body will release some happy hormones also known as endorphins. If you’re feeling down, running, lifting, boxing, and pretty much all types of physical activities will make you feel more positive faster. And not just that. You can also build resistance and get healthier as well as tone your whole body while you’re at it. So the next time you don’t feel right, go to the gym or play some competitive sports with your best buddies. Sweat the bad day away and have fun!

Make Your Favourite Dish

Doing this is like hitting two birds with one stone. You get to perform an act of manual labor, plus you get a reward for your hard work – delicious food. If you’d rather just buy food from a store, then that’s perfectly fine too. Remember that your goal is to reach a state of zen as you try to rewire your brain into having a fun day instead of wallowing in your negative feelings.

Get Something Nice for Yourself

Retail therapy can get addicting. But in moderation, it’s a great way to get yourself some nice things that can make you happy. Just don’t go overboard with your purchases. You don’t want to end up in debt just because you had a bad day and needed something expensive to fix it. It can be something inexpensive but useful like a new pillow or mug. If you don’t want to spend much, you can just browse some stores and maybe check out some new places.

Go Solo

Taking a vacation or a hike by yourself is perfect for recollecting your thoughts and burning down whatever overflowing emotions you have. Going alone is the perfect opportunity to think things through and get rid of any overwhelming sadness or anger you may be feeling. It’s also an excellent time for introspection and self-discovery. Discovering new places will also pique your curiosity and steer you away from bad thoughts and feelings.

Sleep

Sleep doesn’t just relax your physical body, it also allows your mind to rest. Even a bad day is no match to your body doing it’s best to help you cope and adapt to negative feelings. Use a weighted blanket for a deeper sleep and allow yourself to feel safe and comfortable.
